The Problem:
It is within human nature to seek comfort and stability. However, when our thoughts and actions are no longer considered our own, when do we question them? The problem is a lack of critical thought and reflection, we are no longer in a time in history where our planet can have us stand still and be ok with the norm. The Festival of Dangerous ideas provides a platform for people to hear alternative opinions and question our beliefs. It is the beginning of change.
The Idea:
The 'Festival of Dangerous Ideas' pushes individuals to consider alternatives to existence and human practice. The idea was to create a provocative poster series, that engages viewers in the festival and critically reflect on the information that society is continuously scripted to believe.
The Execution:
Through visual principles such as hierarchy, balance, gestalt theory, typography, mood and colour. I was to create a poster series that represents society shattering the norm. While I don't usually stack typography, it was a method used to show defiance, the colour deep red symbolises blood and passion, while the protruding shards create an element of danger. These elements have been applied throughout to create consistency and coherence.
